PIRATES 7 BLUE JAYS 4
On the mound
Joe Musgrove made his final Grapefruit League start. He threw five innings and allowed one run (a homer) on five hits to go with one walk and two strikeouts. He also threw a simulated sixth inning in the bullpen.
“I felt like I was cutting myself off a little bit, my timing and stuff still wasn’t all that great, but other than that I felt the ball was coming out decent,” Musgrove said. “I had a lot of good movement.”
Kyle Crick allowed two runs on three hits in twothirds of an inning.
“I’ve seen a good fastball, but I haven’t seen the hard slider yet,” pitching coach Ray Searage said of Crick. “Today was a rough day for him. Couldn’t command the fastball, got behind, and then had to come right at them.”
Searage filled in for manager Clint Hurdle, who stayed in Bradenton for a camp day at Pirate City.
At the plate
Francisco Cervelli homered for the second time in as many games and had three RBIs. Jose Osuna also hit a home run and leads the team with five. Elias Diaz went 2 for 2 with two RBIs.
In the field
Musgrove and Cervelli briefly bumped into each other trying to catch a popup near home plate in the first inning; Cervelli ended up catching the ball. In the third, Kevin Kramer made a leaping grab of a line drive and doubled up the runner at second base.
