Post-Gazette has strong showing in state contests

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette had a strong showing in two statewide contests, capturing 23 awards in the Keystone Press Awards run by the Pennsylvania News Media Association and 22 awards in the Pennsylvania Associated Press Media Editors competition.
In the Keystones, the Post-Gazette took nine first-place honors, including a Distinguished Visual Award for photographer Steph Chambers, as well as six second places and eight honorable mentions.
Judges in the PAPME contest honored staff work with 14 first-place honors and eight second-place finishes.
Here’s a rundown of the Keystone winners:
First place awards went to: the Post-Gazette sports staff’s Stanley Cup Coverage; feature story “Night Shift: Working through the deadest of hours” by Daniel Moore, Steve Mellon and Zack Tanner; Ms. Chambers’ photo of an excited Pens fan with goalie Marc-Andre Fleury; Ms. Chambers’ photo of a high school football player flying into the end zone; a photo story/essay by Stephanie Strasburg and Mr. Mellon for the “Riding OD Road/Life and Death on Santron Avenue” package; page design by Steve Ziants; graphic illustration by Daniel Marsula; and a video story by Mr. Mellon and Stephanie Strasburg called “1601 Brighton Road.”
Second place honors went to: sports columnist Gene Collier; feature beat reporter Maria Sciullo; page designer Mr. Marsula; graphic designers Ed Yozwick and James Hilston; videographer Andrew Rush on “Living and working on the Ohio River”; and the Post-Gazette’s Distinction magazine.
