A 68-year-old man stabbed another man during a road rage incident Tuesday morning in Millvale, Allegheny County Police said.

John Hoegerl of Millvale and a 60-year-old man, both of whom were driving red pickup trucks, got into an argument in the 2900 block of Smallman Street in the Strip District, police said.

The victim began following Hoegerl, who, at one point when both trucks were stopped, got out of his vehicle, kicked the victim’s door and spat on him, according to a criminal complaint. The victim told police he continued to follow Hoegerl because he wanted to get a photo of his truck, the complaint said.

The men “continued to exchange unpleasantries” as they drove on Route 28 toward Millvale, police said. They began to fight when they got to the intersection of the off ramp of Route 28 and East Ohio Street, and Hoegerl stabbed the 60-yearold in the chest, according to police.

The victim, who was not identified, drove to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

He was taken to another hospital where he was listed in critical but stable condition. Police expect him to survive.

Police arrested Hoegerl at his home in Millvale. He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail on a charges of aggravated assault, attempted homicide, recklessly endangering another person and tampering with evidence.
