It’s heartening that voters rejected Mike Stack

-

The voters paid attention! The stunning defeat of Lt. Gov. Mike Stack — a fourthplace finish in a field of five in the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor — is the shot heard round the world in Pennsylvania politics (May 16, “Braddock Mayor Makes History in Lt. Gov. Race: Fetterman Deals Decisive Defeat to Incumbent Stack”).

Mr. Stack demonstrated himself unfit for office after he was reported to have subjected his state police security detail and employees at the lieutenant governor’s mansion to a hostile work environment: berating them and subjecting them to the use of profanity.

After Mr. Stack refused to heed warnings from Gov. Tom Wolf, he was sanctioned by being stripped of his security detail. The governor also scaled back staffing at the lieutenant governor’s mansion. If Mr. Stack had been an ordinary state employee, he could have been disciplined up to and including termination for his conduct.

Also, Mr. Stack accepted a $25,000 campaign contribution from the political action committee affiliated with disgraced multiple felon, former state Senate kingpin Vincent Fumo.

Mr. Stack and the governor were said to have such a chilly relationship that they do not speak. Relations between the two were so strained that Mr. Wolf declined to endorse his “partner” of more than three years.

The Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor, Braddock Mayor John Fetterman, does not wear flashy suits like Mr. Stack and he is tattooed, which is not one’s image of a Harrisburg high-rolling politician, but he is an honorable, decent, good-hearted, intelligent, knowledgeable man who will serve the people. The Mueller investigation must be allowed to go to its conclusion. In addition, a bipartisan Congress must do its job of being a check on the executive branch. It’s the right thing to do. It’s the patriotic thing to do. DAVID TURNER

Why are we still hearing about the Russia probe? If this influenced the election and was discovered before the election, why didn’t the Obama administration, FBI and Democratic Party do something in 2016? We should be demanding to know why all this money was spent for so long to find nothing.

The second thing I am sick of hearing about is the stripper who was paid. The Clintons have tried to cover up Bill Clinton’s sexual liaisons to influence their public image, as have many other politicians regarding their own affairs. Those of us who voted for President Donald Trump never confused him with Mother Teresa. What happened is between him and his wife and God.

Third, why are we expected to take former FBI Director James Comey’s word on a meeting at which no one was there but him and the president and it was recorded? Goes to show that you can write anything you want to sell books.

Mr. Trump has accomplished many of his promises. Unemployment is down, hiring is up, the economy is doing well. He has even managed to arrange to meet, in the future, with North Korea to eliminate a nuclear threat. We need to support his efforts going forward, especially his plans to control the flow of illegal immigration. People need to be reminded that the president never said he opposed immigration; he just believes we have laws and they need to be enforced for people to enter our country.

Let’s give him a chance to “Make America Great Again.” DOROTHY SHOCK Springdale Township Current attraction: See the amazing Rudy Giuliani put his feet firmly in his mouth while throwing the president of the United States under the bus! THELMA R. MILLER Squirrel Hill
