Council approved a $181,260 contract with Morgan Excavating of Belle Vernon to resurface the “S bend” portion of Bowman Avenue from the county line to the straightway.
Construction is expected to start soon and take about a month.
Funds for phase one of the project are coming from the city’s liquid fuels fund and an Allegheny County Community Infrastructure and Tourism Fund grant.
Once work is started on Bowman, the “S bend” portion will be closed to through traffic for about a month.
Council also approved a contract with Lutterman Excavating of Greensburg in the amount of $62,600 for the reconstruction of the Gergely Park Amphitheater.
Last year, Lutterman Excavating reconstructed the pier at Gergely Park along Water Street.
Refurbishing the amphitheater is phase two of this project.
MURRYSVILLE
Council unanimously approved an agreement with Dominion Gas Co. that will provide expansion of an easement through Murrysville Community Park to allow for the installation of a 30inch gas transportation line.
The expansion will include a 50-foot permanent easement and a 50foot temporary easement totaling 4.1 acres.
After an initial offer of $35,000 in 2016, Dominion made a final offer of $154,000, plus a donation of $50,000 for capital improvements in the park along with a $25,000 grant through Dominion Foundation for environmental work at Steele’s Run.
CARNEGIE
Mayor Stacie Riley said $41,323 was raised for the residents left homeless by the Papa J’s Ristorante fire in March.
The money came from a combination of direct donations and proceeds from a spaghetti dinner.
“The fire victims have all received their allocations,” she said at Monday’s council meeting.
SOUTH FAYETTE
Township commissioners agreed to contribute $200,000 for improvements to the Route 50 interchange.
The quarter-mile-long project will include widening the bridge over Chartiers Creek on state Route 50 to accommodate additional lanes.
Chartiers Street also will be widened to add a turning lane.
The northbound ramp to Interstate 79 will be widened to accommodate two lanes that will narrow into one lane. Additional improvements include traffic signal upgrades, guiderail updates, signing and pavement markings. The project completion date is early 2020.
