Falcons down Riverside, 6-5

Brownsvill­e ousts defending champs

Brownsvill­e put an end to Riverside’s two-year reign as WPIAL champions Tuesday.

Dylan Brosky lined an RBI single to left field in the seventh inning to give Brownsvill­e a 6-5 win in a Class 3A semifinal at Washington & Jefferson. The win sends Brownsvill­e (14-2) to the final for the first time since 1999.

“This was a really big win for our program,” Brownsvill­e coach Skooter Roebuck said.

Brownsvill­e scored four runs in the first, but Riverside (16-2) rallied to tie the score, 5-5, in the fifth. Colton Dellarose, Brody Bagwell and D.J. Zimcosky had two hits apiece for Brownsvill­e.

Brownsvill­e will play Avonworth (16-4) in the final. Avonworth defeated South Side Beaver (13-5), 13-2, in six innings. Ryan Felter was the winning pitcher and added three hits and four RBIs.

Class 4A semifinal

South Fayette 1, Hopewell 0: Tyler Bedillion tossed a 3hitter to push South Fayette (16-5) past Hopewell (13-10) at Burkett Complex. Nolan Lutz knocked in Richie Dell with a second-inning double.

Class 2A semifinal

C.W. North Catholic 9, Neshannock 2: Robby Randolph’s two-run single highlighte­d a four-run first that vaulted North Catholic (17-5) past Neshannock (18-4) at Burkett Complex.

Roundup Class 1A semifinals

Vincentian 6, Jeannette 0: Aidan Thomson fired a 3hitter and struck out seven to help Vincentian (15-4) take down defending champion Jeannette (13-4) at Fox Chapel. Kyler Fedko doubled twice and drove in two runs.

Union 6, Greensburg C.C. 1: After falling behind in the first, Union (14-3) scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat Greensburg C.C. (13-6) at Fox Chapel. Nick Jacobs and Seth Pinkerton each had two RBIs.

Class 6A quarterfin­als

North Allegheny 3, Bethel Park 1: Luke Trueman gave up just one unearned run in seven innings to help No. 10seeded North Allegheny (1210) upset No. 2 Bethel Park (17-4) at Upper St. Clair. Bethel Park’s Justin Meis struck out 16 in 5⅔ innings. Meis had 13 strikeouts over the first four innings. One of the batters he struck out in that stretch reached on a passed ball.

Canon-McMillan 2, Plum 1: Conner Flaherty’s walk-off single scored Nick Serafino as Canon-McMillan (15-5) beat Plum (16-5) at North Allegheny. Winning pitcher Zach Rohaley struck out seven.

Hempfield 9, Pine-Richland 1: Nick DiAndredth and Tommy Katanka knocked in two runs apiece for Hempfield (16-5) in a big win against Pine-Richland (14-7) at West Mifflin. Jake Anderson pitched a complete-game fivehitter.
