Council set to conduct traffic study on Stonebrook Drive

- By Deana Carpenter

In response to residents who submitted a petition from residents asking for traffic-calming measures on Stonebrook Drive, Peters council authorized the administration to perform traffic counts on the road.

Township Manager Paul Lauer said at a May 29 meeting that residents mainly are concernedwith traffic coming from the nearby St. Benedict theAbbot Catholic Church.

Councilman Frank Arcuri, who lives nearby, said traffic is not only bad when church lets out, but it is especially bad following Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) classes, saying people fly up Stonebrook Drive after those classes aredonefortheevening.

“I know why they’re concerned,” Mr. Arcuri said of the traffic. He recommended a greater police presence in the area to help curb the speeders.

The traffic counts will be done in September when CCD is back in session.

Mr. Lauer told council that traffic counts were done on theroad in the past, but trafficcalming measures were not warrantedat that time.

In other business, council approved an intergovernmental agreement between the township and the school district to establish terms and conditions related to the design and construction of Rolling Hills Drive.

Rolling Hills Drive is the plannedthrough road between thenew Peters Township High School property and the proposedRolling Hills Park.

The intergovernmental agreement makes sure that the two entities will equally share in the expense associated with the design and construction of Rolling Hills Drive, as well as the intersections with the new road and East McMurray and Center Church roads.

Council also approved the application of a $250,000 grant under the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program to design and construct a bicycle trail in Rolling Hills Park. If the township receives the grant, it would pay for about half of the project.

The design of the trail, which would connect Arrowhead Trail to Rolling Hills Park, is expected in 2019 with construction bids expected in 2020. The township should know this fall whether it will get the grant.
