West Allegheny collects 11 hits in 7-4 victory

A few weeks ago, West Allegheny advanced to the WPIAL semifinals. Now, the Indians can call themselves a semifinali­st for the second time this season.

A three-run sixth inning gave West Allegheny the boost it needed to get past Red Land, 7-4, in the PIAA baseball quarterfin­als at Mount Aloysius College in Cresson, Pa.

Logan Malatak drove in three runs and Shea Downing knocked in two more runs. As a team, the Indians (16-2) racked up 11 hits, with Trey Zeroski accounting for three of those.

More Class 5A

Marple Newtown 6, Mars 1: Marple Newtown pitcher Luke Zimmerman tossed a three-hit gem to stymie the Planets. Jack Anderson had a solo home run for Mars (16-7).

Class 4A

Ringgold 12, Hopewell 0: Josh Peters tossed five innings of one-hit ball, as Ringgold picked up a mercy-rule victory in a matchup of WPIAL squads. Bobby Boyer smacked a three-run homer and went 2 for 3 with five RBIs for the Rams (18-4).

Class 3A

Brownsvill­e 10, Bald Eagle 0: Winning pitcher Josh Davison tossed a twohitter in the five-inning victory for the Falcons (17-2). Davison has given up just three hits in his past 12 innings pitched for Brownsvill­e, winners of 12 in a row. Trevor Stewart and Austin Lincoski each hit a two-run single.

South Side Beaver 5, Huntingdon 1: Casey Jones struck out 10 in six-plus innings of work to pick up the win and lead the Rams (16- 5) into the semifinals.

Class 2A

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 5, Conemaugh Township 0: With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning, Ryan Feczko broke a scoreless tie with a three-run double. Joe Alampi and Robby Randolph each drove in a run the following inning. Alampi struck out 10 to earn the complete-game victory.

Class 1A

Greensburg Central Catholic 12, Homer-Center 11: Bryce Kurpiel doubled home the winning run in the top of the ninth inning for the Centurions (16-6). GCC trailed, 8-3, after six innings before rallying for five runs in the seventh to force extra innings. Each squad plated three runs in the eighth. Kurpiel had three hits in the game.

Vincentian 10, Oswayo Valley 0: Kyler Fedko belted a homer to center field and Aidan Thomson drove in five runs to provide the offense for the Royals (18-4) in a fiveinning victory. Vincentian has outscored its five playoff opponents this postseason by a combined score of 39-1.
