Pitt baseball coach resigns after two-plus decades

- From local and wire dispatches

Joe Jordano resigned as Pitt’s baseball coach, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, ending a tenure at the school that stretched more than two decades.

Jordano leaves the Panthers as the winningest coach in program history, amassing 588 victories in 21 seasons at the helm. His overall record in that time was 588-522-2 (0.53 win percentage).

For all the accomplishments he accrued in that time, the Panthers never made the NCAA tournament in his time as coach. The program was also never able to fully acclimate to a move to the ACC in 2013, a conference switch that represented a significant step up in competition from the Big East. After going 169-107 overall and 75-55 in conference in its final five seasons in the Big East, Pitt went 119-144 overall and 50-98 in conference in its first five seasons in the ACC.

Anderson, 25, had faced multiple charges, including a felony count of fleeing and eluding police. Those charges were previously dismissed. Anderson set career highs with 63 catches, 941 yards receiving and seven touchdowns in 2017, his second NFL season.
