Dodgers add to power surge

-

Justin Turner hit an 11th-inning home run in the Dodgers’ difficult 8-7 win against the Mets, completing a series sweep.

The Dodgers hit a recordsetting seven solo shots. In addition to Turner, Enrique Hernandez and Cody Bellinger each homered twice, while Max Muncy and Joc Pederson had one apiece.

The seven home runs in one game tied for secondmost in franchise history, and was the first time any opponent hit seven home runs against the Mets at home.

It was the first time since the 2006 Braves that a club had seven solo homers, a National League record.

The Dodgers have 46 home runs in June and a league-high 102 this season. Hernandez has a careerhigh 12, Muncy and Bellinger are tied for the team lead at 15, and Pederson has 10.

“That’s what we do. We hit homers. A lot of them.” Hernandez said.

Yankees

Catcher Gary Sanchez likely is headed to the disabled after pulling up limping while running out a double-play grounder at Tampa Bay. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sanchez hurt his right side near the groin. Sanchez will have an MRI Monday. He’s hitting only .190 with 14 home runs and 41 RBIs, a year after making the AllStar team. “What can I say? That’s how baseball is sometimes,” Sanchez said. “You never want something bad to happen, but it’s part of baseball. Now I’m just hoping it’s not a long time. I have to keep my head up and come back as soon as possible.”

Mets

Brandon Nimmo is keeping a positive attitude as he awaits an MRI Monday morning on his right hand. Nimmo, 25, an outfielder, exited an 8-7 loss Sunday to the Dodgers in the seventh inning after getting hit on the pinkie on his right hand with an 87-mph fastball from Rich Hill in the fifth inning. Nimmo said X-rays on his finger showed no damage.

Reds

Pitcher Mike Lorenzen hit a pinch-hit home run to begin Cincinnati’s comeback as the Reds beat the Chicago Cubs, 8-6, for their seventh win in a row. Lorenzen’s homer was the third of his career and second in two games by a Reds pitcher. Anthony DeSclafani hit a grand slam Saturday, the first by a Reds pitcher since 1959.
