Pittsburgh ‘Hamilton’ tickets for sale online aren’t real

As Pittsburgh prepares for the national tour of “Hamilton” to arrive here in January, many are already trying to secure tickets online for the four-week run of the show at the Benedum Center, Downtown.

There’s one catch, though — the tickets currently for sale online are not real.

According to Scott Schiller, Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s vice president of artistic planning, any Pittsburgh “Hamilton” tickets currently advertised for sale online — such as on StubHub, VividSeats or Facebook pages like “An American Musical Hamilton” — are “fraudulent and not verified.”

Fake tickets for the musical are selling through these resell vendors for anywhere from hundreds to thousands of dollars.

Verified tickets will be sold only through the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s website, phone center or box office starting this fall, Mr. Schiller said. An exact date is still to be determined.

Subscribers and Trust members will be first in line to buy tickets, and then individual tickets will be available.

For updates on the status of the “Hamilton” tickets for the Benedum Center, Mr. Schiller advises visiting the “Hamilton” FAQ page on the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust website, or signing up for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust email list that provides information in advance about ticket sales.

The January 2019 tour dates will mark “Hamilton’s” Pittsburgh debut. Mr. Schiller ensures fans that even if they are not able to secure verified tickets this time around, “Hamilton” will return to Pittsburgh again.

“We know the demand [for tickets] is going to be high,” he said. “But we are doing everything we can to let as many people as possible see ‘ Hamilton’ and not [have them worry] about buying fraudulent tickets.”
