See Amazon offer

-

In Western Pennsylvania we pride ourselves on hard work for honest pay, and we believe in openness and honesty.

We live in small communities where small businesses are the heart of our economies. We don’t believe that the government will bail us out and certainly don’t expect the government to use our hard-earned money to bribe big corporations to come to our great commonwealth.

The deal being presented to Amazon represents all the things we don’t do in Western Pa. Seems to me that we should have honesty and transparency in government.

Instead, officials like Gov. Tom Wolf continue to fall over themselves and sell out taxpayers in order to lavish massive sums of corporate welfare on the tech giant. Even worse, Mr. Wolf has been refusing to release the details of the deal he has offered to Amazon for HQ2, telling Pennsylvanians that it is a trade secret.

All this shameful corporate kowtowing begs the question: Who is Gov. Wolf’s real boss, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos or the 12.5 million Pennsylvania taxpayers?

It makes absolutely no sense to carve out exemption after exemption for the world’s third-richest company while treating local small business owners and employees, which are the pillars of our communities, like second-class citizens.

Keeping the deal offered for Amazon HQ2 private on the grounds that it is a trade secret is simply ludicrous.

The state government is not a business and corporate welfare is not a trade. Release the details! PEGGY DONLEY
