Pride in the Rox

-

#WeAreHere: The StoRox Public Library and Focus on Renewal and the Ryan Arts Center held an awareness event with the spotlight on the LGBTQIA culture. Pride in the Rox was a first-time event to promote inclusion and understanding.

The event was held in the library and was free to all ages and all orientations. Children and adults enjoyed the feather boas available to wear and the rainbow of colored streamers that decorated the entrance and the children’s reading room. Light appetizers were offered before a series of videos explaining such things as what it’s like to be transgender in high school and the definition of a drag queen?

The idea for the event came from library director Cheryl Napsha, who organized it with Trevor Miles, dance instructor and founder of the Trevor C. Dance Collective.

“We are elated to have the first-ever Pride event in McKees Rocks,” said Mr. Miles. Adding, “The library has been integral in making this happen.”

“I wanted to so something for Pride,” explained Ms. Napsha. Naheen Cavaleri emceed the evening’s performances, which included the Trevor C. Dance Collective, music by Switch, Please, Vogue-ing and Drag.

Among those entertained and entertaining were Kayla Zankel, Julie Popull, Eric Jones, Orchid Bloomfield, Nikki Danielle, Ace Phoenix, Rex Revlon, Tinky 007 and Christopher Eagleton.
