The city should seriously consider PWSA offers
The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority should seriously consider two offers to acquire PWSA, one from Peoples Gas(July 3, “Peoples Gas Seeks to Create Water Utility”) and another from Pennsylvania AmericanWater (July 2, “Pennsylvania American Eyes PWSA for Acquisition, Pushes Consolidation”), both well-managed companies andgood corporate citizens.
One of our region’s most important assets is our access to a reliable and abundant source of potable water. This is in sharp contrast with many areas of the United States and the world. In recent years, that resource has been compromised by the poor stewardship of the city of Pittsburgh and PWSA. Mayor Bill Peduto, who is always quick to take credit for anything positive that occurs, appoints the PWSA board and subsequently complains about its performance as if he has no responsibility. The city of Pittsburgh has clearly demonstrated it cannot manage PWSA.
Although the mayor generally has shown disdain for the private sector, he should recognize his failure and protect our future by entertaining these legitimate offers. JIM RODDEY Former Allegheny County Executive FormerChairman PWSA Valencia

to commit acts of violence against protesters? When he condoned Nazis marching in the streets? When he attacks the FBI and the Justice Department with endless lies and accusations? When he mocked a reporter with a disability? His draconian immigration policies? I could go on and on. There was a reason that Mr. Trump didn’t carry his city and home state. They knew what he was and who he is.
The civility ship has sailed, or rather has been sunk by the current occupant of the White House and all who enable him.
Oh, and let’s not forget, the PG fired Rob Rogers. SHARON BRADY Duquesne Heights where you need to sign a waiver acknowledging you might be denied service if your beliefs don’t match the establishment’s. My guess is that it was referencing the Red Hen restaurant incident with Sarah Huckabee Sanders. I think it also could be applied to bakeries and florist shops. If you want to continue to stretch this idea, we can regress to not renting apartments, not selling houses, denying services of all kinds to people for various personal beliefs.
I don’t agree with the Red Hen, nor do I agree with a bakery or florist shop denying its services for a gay wedding. Where does it stop? DEMETRIA MARSH

I have finally lost all confidence in the White House, in both houses of Congress and now in the Supreme Court. Nowhere can I find even a single bright light of hope and promise.
Fear reigns. Anger and incivility grow. My confidence and hope are now in the heart of the American people who will show up to vote in about four months. I must believe the better values of our nation will shine forth and prevail.
Never has an “off year” election been more crucial or definitive. I do not wish anyone harm. But I do believe the direction of this country can and will change via the ballot box and the privilege of voting.
