Man found guilty in 2016 shooting

-

An Allegheny County judge on Monday found a West Oakland man guilty of third-degree murder stemming from a shooting death two years ago.

Jarrod Dolphin, 23, will be sentenced by Common Pleas Judge Thomas E. Flaherty on Nov. 11.

Dolphin was found guilty of killing Manly Banks III, 26, on Aug. 10, 2016, in Northview Heights.

According to police, Mr. Banks and another person were standing in a courtyard near Mount Pleasant Road when Dolphin pulled out a gun and began firing.

Mr. Banks was shot six times and died a short time later at Allegheny General Hospital.

Dolphin was not arrested until two months after the shooting when he was captured by the U.S. Marshal’s Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force.

Two indicted on charges of stealing mail, parcels

TwoMon Valley men are under federal indictment on charges of stealing mail and packages from apartment buildings in Oakland and Shadyside during a three-month spree earlier this year and in some cases doling out stolen gift cards to co-conspirators to pass at gas stations and stores.

Christopher Carr, 45, of Munhall, and Ron Sharp, 42, of Duquesne, were charged last week with conspiracy and mail theft after an investigation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and postal inspectors.

Agents said the pair entered numerous apartment buildings between February and May and opened packages and mail sent to residents and left for pickup at mail areas. They stole items from the packages and resold them or had others resell them.

In some cases they also stole gift cards and gave them to others to use at Giant Eagle and GetGo.

Carr and Sharp are both in custody.
