Remains of child discovered at New Mexico compound

AMALIA,N.M. — Searchers found the remains of a boy after raiding a makeshift compound last week in search of a missing Georgia child, authoritie­s said Tuesday.

The remains were found Monday during a search in Amalia, near the Colorado border. Taos County Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe said. Authoritie­s were awaiting positive identifica­tion of the remains.

Thesearch for Abdulghani of Georgia led authoritie­s Friday to the squalid compound where they found Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, the fatherof the missing boy, alongwith four other adults and11 children living in filthy conditions.

The sheriff said authoritie­s returned to the compound after interviews Friday and Saturday led them to believe the boy might still be on the property.

According to the extraditio­n warrant, Mr. Wahhaj told the boy’s mother that he wanted to perform an exorcism on the child, who suffered from seizures. The mother told police that Mr. Wahhaj took the boy for a trip to a park and never returned.

Lemonade vendor gifted

MONROE,N.C. — A 9year-old entreprene­ur whose lemonade stand was robbed of $17 has since received more than $200 in donations and a new ride-on lawnmower worth $1,100.

The young salesman, whose first name is Mark, told sheriff’s deputies he was held up at gunpoint Saturday while selling lemonade at a traffic circle not far from the entrance to his community in Monroe, about 30 miles southeast of Charlotte.

Investigat­ors were still searching Tuesday for a male suspect, said Union County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Underwood.

Menendez claims racism

NEWARK, N.J. — U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez, DN.J., says President Donald Trump’s attack on NBA star LeBron James is part of a larger pattern of racist behavior.

Mr. Menendez wrote in a tweet Monday that Mr. Trump wouldn’t have questioned Mr. James’ intelligen­ce or charity work if he were white. Mr. Trump criticized Mr. James on Friday after an interview aired with CNN anchor Don Lemon in which he deemed Mr. Trump divisive.

Infowars rallies followers

WASHINGTON— The right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is calling on his Infowars followers to rise up against antiTrump “sociopaths” who he says are behind the removal of his Infowars programmin­g from most major social media platforms.

Over the past several days Apple, Facebook, YouTube and Spotify have removed most of Mr. Jones’s programmin­g from their services in a sweeping effort to rein in those who traffic in online misinforma­tion. Stitcher, LinkedIn and Pinterest have also removed Infowars content.

Deadly Colorado zoo hail

A torrent of softball-size hail killed an endangered vulture and a duck while injuring 14 people at a Colorado zoo on Tuesday.

At least 14 people and a number of animals were injured, and hundreds of cars were damaged. The guests and staff were evacuated.
