Salas beats weather, ties course record with 62
Lizette Salas waited 77 minutes to line up her 4-foot putt to take the lead Thursday at the Indy Women in Tech Championship.
She refused to let the weather delay get to her.
When the 29-year-old California player returned to the course in Indianapolis, she quickly rolled in the birdie, finished her round with another birdie at No. 18 and took a two-shot lead over Angel Yin and Nasa Hataoka with a 10-under 62 that equaled the course record.
U.S. Amateur
Texas teen Cole Hammer won two matches Thursday at Pebble Beach, Calif., to advance to the U.S. Amateur quarterfinals.
Hammer, the 18-year-old Houston player headed to the University of Texas this fall, beat Joshua McCarthy of Danville, Calif., 1 up in the morning in the round of 32, and topped Zach Murray of Australia 2 and 1 in the afternoon in the round of 16.
The co-medalist will face England’s Alex Fitzpatrick in the quarterfinals.
European Tour
