WILKINSBURG

-

The borough will host its annual Community Day from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 25 in the Parklet Complex, located at 739 Penn Ave. in the borough’s central business district. Activities will extend to the adjacent parking lots on Wallace Avenue and Taylor Way.

The free event is hosted by Wilkinsburg Mayor Marita Garrett and is open to the public.

“I want this year’s Community Day to truly be a community event and welcome all who want to enjoy a fun day while celebrating Wilkinsburg,” Ms. Garrett said. She added one of the main reasons for locating the event at the parklet complex is to help compel everyone who drives through Wilkinsburg that day to “hop out of the car and participate in the festivities.”

The event will have live music including Barrels to Beethoven, recording artist and Wilkinsburg native LiveFromTheCity, DJ Illeso and a local steel pan band.

Face painters, a caricature artist, a bounce house slide, photo booth, carnival games, food trucks and local drinks also will be available for those attending.

Borough officials and representatives from area nonprofit organizations will be there to share information and resources with the community.

Event information and information on volunteering for Community Day can be found online at fb.com/events/ 249330755792924.
