Bryant visiting Browns, Cleveland

-

Dez Bryant is getting to know the Cleveland Browns better and vice versa.

The three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver visited team headquarters Thursday in Berea, Ohio, and there’s a chance the meeting could lead to Bryant signing with Cleveland.

Before meeting with team officials, Bryant posted a photo on Twitter signing autographs at Cleveland’s airport. Later, he stopped in the studio of the team’s in-house radio show and gave an on-air update of his stopover.

“I’m happy to be here, you know excited, you know just trying to work out some things,” Bryant said. “It’s a lovely place.”

Bryant, 29, was released by the Dallas Cowboys after eight seasons in April and has been waiting to latch on with another team. He turned down a three-year contract offer from the Baltimore Ravens.

The Browns have plenty of room under the salary cap to offer Bryant a multi-year deal. Instead, the team may opt to sign him to a shortterm contract. The Browns also must decide if they are ready to take on a player who clashed with Cowboys coaches.

Last week, general manager John Dorsey, who has been looking for more receiving help because of the uncertainty surrounding troubled star Josh Gordon, said he had been trying to contact Bryant with no success.

Philadelphia defensive backs Malcolm Jenkins and De’Vante Bausby remained in the tunnel for the national anthem before the Super Bowl rematch against New England, a week after raising their fists in protest in the exhibition opener. Defensive lineman Michael Bennett remained in the locker room, NBC Philadelphia reported on Twitter. A picture tweeted by the station showed Jenkins and Bausby bowing their heads as they looked out toward the field.

Odell Beckham Jr. looks as if he has fully recovered from left ankle surgery. New York’s star wide receiver sounds like it, too. “Just to be back in the swing of things, I just feel like I’m back in love with what I’ve always loved,” he said Thursday. Giants coach Pat Shurmur declined to say if Beckham would play Friday against Detroit.
