SEIU kicks off bargaining for Pittsburgh security guards
The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) kicked off bargaining on behalf of 1,100 security guards in Pittsburgh, pledging to build on the momentum of the first contract reached in 2015. SEIU officials, joined by Mayor Bill Peduto during a rally at Center City Tower in Downtown on Thursday, said they would press for higher wages and better benefits in a new three-year labor contract. Negotiations will be one of the most closely watched bargaining sessions in the city, as the union guards patrol commercial office buildings, education facilities, apartment buildings, museums, libraries and stadiums. The current contract is set to expire Sept. 30.
Amazon is planning live TV recorder, challenging TiVo
Amazon.com is developing a device that records live TV, working around cable providers and encroaching on TiVo Corp.’s market, according to a person familiar with the plans. The device, dubbed “Frank” inside Amazon, is a new type of digital video recorder for the streaming era. It would include physical storage and connect to Amazon’s existing Fire TV boxes, according to the person.
Goldman is facing U.K. probe over MiFID reporting faults
Goldman Sachs is facing a probe from U.K. regulators over its reporting practices tied to new rules in European markets, according to people with knowledge of the matter. The Financial Conduct Authority has been investigating the matter this year, the people said. Earlier this year, a former Goldman Sachs employee sent a complaint to the FCA alleging that the bank’s approach was to flood regulators with too much data and inaccurate information in breach of compliance guidelines, the people said.
