Greyhounds, bandana sale benefit, and cat neuter surgeries and clinics
Greyhounds and ice cream
Meet adoptable greyhounds at the Great American Banana Split Celebration on Aug. 25 in Latrobe, the city where the saucy and fruity ice cream dessert was invented in 1904. Adoptable dogs from Three Rivers Greyhounds will be at Main and Ligonier streets from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Victory Lap Greyhound Transport will be at the same site from 1-6 p.m.
Bandana sale benefit
Red, white and blue bandanas are being sold for $5 during Pet Valu’s Patriotic Pets fundraiser to benefit brave dogs who have served in wars. Money raised will go to the U.S. War Dogs Association, which brings dogs home when their military service has ended. The organization also provides working dogs with things they need, including cooling vests and doggie goggles. Members are also working to establish a permanent War Dog Memorial.
Last year, Pet Valu raised over $500,000 for the War Dogs Association.
Cat spay and neuter dates
Free and low-cost spay and neuter surgeries have been scheduled by the Homeless Cat Management Team, which has spayed or neutered more than 1,000 cats annually since 2000.
Walk-ins are not accepted, and everyone must pre-register.
The next free clinics, for feral cats only, are scheduled for Sept. 8 in memory of Mary Jane Ludwig, and Nov. 17, sponsored by the Monica George Initiative Fundraiser in memory of Logan.
Fast-track, low-cost clinics are scheduled for Oct. 27 and Dec. 18. The cost is $30 for ferals, $40 for male rescue cats and pets, and $55 for female rescues and pets. The fees include pain medications, treatment for fleas and ear mites, and rabies vaccine.
All surgeries are done at HCMT’s clinic at 207 Allegheny St., Tarentum (15084).
To pre-register, call 412321-4060 and leave a message. Clinics fill up quickly, so call at least two weeks in advance. A volunteer will return your call and confirm your appointment.
More spay and neuter clinics will be scheduled. Go to www.homelesscat.org for schedules and more information.
