Black Box posts decreased losses in the first quarter

On the heels of a $75 million deal to sell its federal informatio­n technology unit, Black Box Corp. announced first-quarter results for the 2019 fiscal year. Losses were down compared to 2018, when net losses of 65 cents per share sent the stock spiraling down nearly 50 percent. This quarter, the Cecil-based provider of communicat­ion and informatio­n tech equipment reported diluted net loss per share of 48 cents, a 26 percent improvemen­t from the prior fiscal year. Net loss was $7.3 million, down 25 percent from $9.7 million the prior year.

Ronald McDonald House to expand after $100M donation

Ronald McDonald House Charities has received its largest single donation ever: $100 million from North Chicago-based drugmaker AbbVie. Ronald McDonald House, headquarte­red in Chicago, provides temporary housing for families of hospitaliz­ed children across the country, among other services. The donation from AbbVie will be used to build more than 600 new guest rooms at 32 Ronald McDonald Houses in at least 26 states.

Silicon Valley vet to head women’s advocacy Catalyst

A former Silicon Valley CEO is taking the helm of a prominent organizati­on dedicated to the promotion of women in the workplace, saying the #MeToo era is a “fantastic time” to champion gender equality. Lorraine Hariton becomes CEO of the group Catalyst at a time when sexual misconduct scandals are ensnaring corporate executives, and the departure of PepsiCo’s CEO highlighte­d the tiny number of women leading Fortune 500 companies.
