Brady shuts down radio interview

-

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady cut short his paid, weekly radio interview with Boston radio station WEEI Monday when a host pressed him with questions about his fitness guru.

Trainer Alex Guerrero has been the source of a rift between Brady and coach Bill Belichick, who reportedly banned the trainer from the team’s sideline and plane.

WEEI host Kirk Minihane asked Brady about Guerrero being spotted there the past week, and Brady said, “I said I don’t want to get into it.”

After a follow-up question, Brady said, “All right, guys. Have a great day. I’ll talk to you later.”

Brady also walked out of an interview session with reporters a month ago when asked about Guerrero, who also worked with receiver Julian Edelman. Edelman was suspended four games for violating the league’s policy against performance-enhancers.

Jaguars

Jacksonville will be without its top receiver for the second consecutive year. Marqise Lee will have season-ending knee surgery and be placed on injured reserve, coach Doug Marrone said. Lee, who led the team in receptions in 2017, was carted off the field Saturday night after Atlanta Falcons cornerback Damontae Kazee delivered a helmet-first hit to his knee. Tests confirmed what everyone in the stadium expected after seeing Lee’s knee buckle: The injury was clearly severe. Marrone declined to provide specifics about Lee’s injury but said the team has no plans to pursue a free-agent replacement.

Colts

Quarterback Andrew Luck missed a practice Monday with an injured foot. Coach Frank Reich said Luck was hurt in a victory against Saturday San Francisco and indicated it was a minor injury. He says Luck would play if the Colts had a regular-season game Sunday.

Seahawks

Seattle could be without linebacker K.J. Wright for the season opener at Denver after the defensive leader had arthroscopic surgery on his knee. Coach Pete Carroll said Wright came out of a preseason game last week against Minnesota feeling something off in his knee.

Lions

Detroit has signed Robert Ayers in its latest attempt to bolster the defensive front. Now entering his 10th NFL season, Ayers made 10 starts in each of the past two seasons with Tampa Bay. He has 35 sacks, including a career-high 9½ with the Giants in 2015. “For me, as a young guy, when I first got in the league, he [Ayers] was one of the veterans that I just paid a lot of attention to,” said Detroit linebacker Devon Kennard, who was with the Giants when Ayers was there.

Cardinals

Coach Steve Wilks said running back D.J. Foster is out for the season with a torn ACL and MCL and former Steelers defensive end Arthur Moats is expected to miss two to four weeks with a sprained MCL.
