Zombie-themed pop-up bar to scare up fun Downtown
You have to figure they’ll have a “Corpse Reviver” on the menu.
A pop-up bar, Zombie Den: Bar of the Living Dead, will open on Oct. 3 in the Original Oyster House in Market Square for a monthlong run paying homage to the 50th anniversary of George A. Romero’s iconic “Night of the Living Dead,” scenes from which were filmed at the 147-year-old Downtown institution.
It’ll be put on by the creators of ScareHouse, the annual labyrinth of terror and gore in Etna, with drinks designed by Pittsburgh food and beverage veterans Michael McCoy and Brian Laing, formerly of Sienna Mercato, that will include the tequila-based Apocalypse Punch and the classic rum-based concoction the Zombie.
According to a release, “guests will enter a bunker-like environment designed to be a ‘safe house’ during a vicious zombie outbreak in Pittsburgh,” where they “will encounter a band of survivors who staff the bar while serving up potent cocktails — and pitch-dark humor to match — to ease the pain of the city’s impending doom as hordes of the undead engage in a relentless attack.”
The Zombie Den pop-up will also be part of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership’s annual Fright Up Night, which is being held on Oct. 27, featuring Halloweenthemed parties and events throughout Downtown.
Details will be available at downtownpittsburgh.com.
