Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
After a year’s absence, the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh’s Annual Exhibition will return this week. A free public reception will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at the SouthSide Works, 2708 Sidney St. A ticketed preview party fundraiser will be held from 7-10 p.m. Thursday ($125, $250 VIP admission at 6 p.m.; tickets at www.aapgh.org).
The 106th annual includes artworks by 47 Pennsylvania-based artists, five of whom have installation works on site. Terry Boyd has created a space where a tattoo artist will re-create his designs on the bodies of guests who wish to participate at each night’s reception. The exhibition was juried by Taras Matla, acting director of the University of Maryland Art Gallery. He will conduct an exhibition tour during the VIP reception.
The exhibition continues through Oct. 27. Hours are 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free. Information: www.aapgh.org or 412-361-1370.
Teaching artists
Andrew Ellis Johnson, Brian Cohen, Kristen Kovak, Sharon Massey and Kenneth Nicholson are among 58 exhibitors in “Artists Who Teach,” a show that continues through Nov. 25 at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art. Nearly 60 artists who teach at local colleges and universities are represented.
These five artists will speak about their work from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the museum, 221 N. Main St., Greensburg. Other exhibiting artists will speak on Oct. 10 and Nov. 7. Admission is free, but reservations are requested at https://thewestmoreland.org.
Local art auction
Artworks from the collection of Daniel Hibbs Morrow will be auctioned from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at The Zenith, 86 S. 26th St., South Side. Mr. Morrow, who died in May, was an advocate for social justice and for improved educational standards. He co-founded and served as executive director for the journal HEArt — Human Equity through Art. He was also “a collector of art and literature and a passionate gardener,” according to artist and gallerist Ellen Chisdes Neuberg.
Artists represented include Richard Bach, David Goldstein, Karl Mullen, Michal Pezzulo, Robert Qualters, Scott Rollers and Michele Tsouri. The auction will benefit the ACLU. Information: http://zenithpgh.com or 412-481-4833.
