Losing still stinks for Gruden
Raiders lost big to Rams in his return
Losing didn’t get any easier for Jon Gruden in his nine seasons away from coaching.
Gruden’s much-anticipated return from the broadcast booth to the sideline ended in disappointment as the Oakland Raiders were outclassed in a 33-13 loss Monday night to the Los Angeles Rams.
The performance showed how far the Raiders have to go to get back to the level they were when Gruden ended his first stint more than 16 years ago.
“They feel the same. It stinks,” Gruden said of losing. “We have work to do. It’s obvious. We’re going to build this football team back. It might not happen tonight. We’re going to keep laying bricks. We have a great group of guys and we’ll be ready for the next battle.”
Panthers
Carolina will be without three-time Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen and secondteam All-Pro Bowl right tackle Daryl Williams for the foreseeable future. The team announced that Olsen refractured his right foot, which kept him out of nine games last season, in Carolina’s 16-8 win Sunday against Dallas. Olsen will not have surgery and will be reevaluated on a “monthly basis.”
Seahawks
Seattle is likely to be without wide receiver Doug Baldwin for at least next week’s game at Chicago and possibly longer due to an MCL injury to his right knee. Coach Pete Carroll was vague Tuesday about the specifics of Baldwin’s injury.
Broncos
Denver signed special teams ace Shamarko Thomas to their 53-man roster. The sixth-year pro who played for the Steelers and Bills replaces kick returner Isaiah McKenzie.
