DiNucci leads James Madison’s win

Ex-Pitt QB throws for three TDs, runs for two more in rout of RMU

Ben DiNucci, the former Pitt and Pine-Richland High School quarterbac­k, accounted for a career-high five touchdowns and James Madison rolled past visiting Robert Morris, 73-7, in a game played early because of Hurricane Florence.

James Madison (2-1), ranked No. 2 in the FCS coaches’ poll, tied a program record with 52 points in the first half.

Marcus Marshall went in motion and took a short pass 39 yards to open the scoring.

DiNucci made it 14-0 on a short sneak after Cardon Johnson highlighte­d the drive with a 21-yard run.

DiNucci found Kyndel Dean wide open in the back of the end zone for a 15-yard score and a 21-0 first-quarter lead. DiNucci’s 17-yard scramble made it 28-0 and he threw an 8-yarder to Riley Stapleton (Indiana High School) on their next possession. Stapleton finished with seven receptions for 67 yards.

Jimmy Moreland became James Madison’s career leader with 15 intercepti­ons on a second-quarter pick-6 and Percy Agyei-Obese scored with 24 seconds left before halftime for a 52-0 lead.

DiNucci completed 14 of 17 passes for 184 yards and three touchdowns, and he carried seven times for 39 yards and two more touchdowns.

Robert Morris’ Terence Stephens rushed for 69 yards and the Colonials’ lone touchdown with 11:08 left in the game. Alijah Jackson added 60 yards on the ground for Robert Morris (1-2).

Saint Francis, Pa.

Tyler Wilkins caught a pass in the corner of the end zone with two seconds left, giving Richmond a 35-27 victory against host Saint Francis. The game was played s early and moved to DeGol Field because of Hurricane Florence.

Zach Campbell caught a 12-yard touchdown pass to give Saint Francis (1-2) a 27-23 lead with 1:10 left Richmond marched down the field, aided by a pass-interferen­ce penalty, and had first-andgoal with seven seconds remaining. After Wilkins’ 6yard touchdown catch, Saint Francis fumbled on the kickoff, and Maurice Jackson returned it for a score.

Kevin Johnson completed 22 of 29 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns for Richmond (2-1), which scored 23 fourth-quarter points. Saint Francis (1-2) outscored Richmond, 17-3, in the third quarter to take a 20-12 lead. Bear Fenimore connected with Kamron Lewis for a 15yard TD and a 2-yarder in the frame.

Davidson

Wesley Dugger scored three of the host Wildcats’ 13 touchdowns, helping them beat Division III Guilford, 91-61, in a game moved up two days because of Hurricane Florence. Davidson (3-0) set program records in the first half with 57 points and 524 yards and added two more in the second half for points and total yards (964). Eli Turner Jr.’s first career touchdown broke the Wildcats’ record for rushing scores in a game with eight midway through the third quarter. Davidson trailed 6-0 before scoring 36 unanswered points. The Wildcats had nine touchdowns of 40 yards or more. Alex Manley led Guilford with 364 yards passing and three touchdowns.

Colgate

Coach Dan Hunt was thinking about other people when the Raiders’ scheduled game at Furman was canceled because of Hurricane Florence. “At the end of the day, you have to look at the big picture, and that’s the safety of everyone involved,. And by that I mean the teams and families but also the allotment of resources used for the game that could be better used somewhere else. ”So, Colgate released its hotel rooms and donated the scheduled team meals once the game was called off.
