Mutt Strut

PNC and Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs are teaming up for the Pittsburgh Community Mutt Strut in Frick Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 7227 Reynolds St. Dogs are invited to strut, and there will be a dog parade with prizes. Donation is $22 for adults and $10 for ages 10-17.

Proceeds go toward training dogs to assist veterans and others who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder and other medical issues.

Puppy shower

There’s a puppy shower for eight Labrador retrievers who will be trained as service dogs by Perfect Fit Canines Inc. The party is from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Roman Bistro, 2104 Ardmore Blvd., Wilkinsburg (15221). The puppies — Pongo, Cleo, Chip, Gaston, Lilo, Mowgli, Peter and Mushu — will soon be placed with volunteer puppy raisers.

People can meet the puppies and other dogs in various stages of training. The event will include free appetizers and a cash bar. There will be raffles to support the local nonprofit that has been training dogs for people with autism and other health issues since 2010.

The shower is free, but RSVP to perfectfitcanines@verizon.net by Sunday.
