Tesla faces Justice Department probe over Elon Musk statement

The Justice Department is investigat­ing Tesla over statements CEO Elon Musk made last month about taking the company private, Tesla said. Department investigat­ors requested documents from the company last month related to Mr. Musk’s announceme­nt and the company has complied, Tesla said. Tesla had not “received a subpoena, a request for testimony, or any other formal process,” it said.

SeaWorld, ex-execs to pay over $5M to settle ‘Blackfish’ claim

SeaWorld and two former executives agreed to pay more than $5 million to settle federal fraud claims that they misled investors about the negative impact that the 2013 documentar­y “Blackfish” had on business. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filed the complaint in federal court in New York as well as the proposed settlement­s, which are subject to court approval.

Visa, Mastercard to pay $6.2B in suit over fees to merchants

Visa and Mastercard will pay $6.2 billion to settle part of a long-running lawsuit brought by merchants over fees on credit card transactio­ns. Visa says it will pay $4.1 billion, and Mastercard will pay about $900 million. The two companies say they’ve set aside money to cover the payment. A group of 19 merchants and trade groups alleged Visa and Mastercard conspired to fix fees that are charged to stores for handling credit card payments.
