High-scoring Charleroi, the No. 1 ranked team in Class 2A, was upset at unranked Beth-Center Friday night, 28-27, in the Interstate Conference.

Charleroi (4-1, 3-1) entered the game averaging 59 points per game. But the host Bulldogs (5-1, 4-1) found a way to slow down the Cougars, who were off to their best start since 1989.

Beth-Center led at halftime, 22-8, and withstood a Charleroi rally. The Cougars’ Hunter Perry caught a 12-yard fourth-quarter touchdown pass from Geno Pellegrini, but the extra-point kick failed, preventing Charleroi from tying the score. Bailey Lincoski led Beth-Center with 146 yards rushing on 22 carries. Dominic Fundy scored two touchdowns for the Bulldogs to offset the 247-yard passing performanc­e by Pellegrini, who completed 18 of 32 passes which resulted in two scoring plays.

Sto-Rox 54, Northgate 0: Eric Wilson completed 19 of 21 passes for 270 yards and six touchdowns to lead the Vikings (4-2, 3-1) to a Big Seven Conference win over the visiting Flames (0-6, 0-4). Wilson leads the WPIAL with 25 touchdown passes.

Washington 42, Frazier 0: No. 5 Washington (5-1, 2-1) earned an easy Interstate Conference victory over visiting Frazier (2-4, 1-3). Dan Walker, Jr. and Dylan Asbury scored two touchdowns apiece for the Little Prexies.

Riverside 42, Carlynton 7: Ben Hughes rushed for three touchdowns and passed for two more in leading the Panthers (4-1) to victory over host Carlynton (1-5) in a nonconfere­nce game. LeMarcus Cleckley rushed for 154 yards on 19 carries for Riverside.

Seton LaSalle 34, Fort Cherry 2: The Rebels (3-3, 2-2) routed the Rangers (2-4, 1-4) in the Three Rivers Conference as Jamar Shegog netted 133 yards and two touchdowns on 12 rushing attempts for Seton LaSalle. Gabe Finale added 102

yards rushing and two more touchdowns.

McGuffey 56, Southmorel­and 28: Marshall Whipkey passed for 225 yards and Christian Clutter rushed for 234 yards to lead the Highlander­s (6-0, 4-0) over Southmorel­and (3-3, 2-3) in the Interstate Conference. Zach Cernuto passed for 220 yards for the Scotties, but was intercepte­d three times.

Brentwood 26, South Side Beaver 7: John Milcic rushed for 155 yards and passed for 89 yards to lead the host Spartans (3-3, 2-2) to a Three Rivers Conference win over the Rams (2-2, 4-2). Milcic rushed for two touchdowns and passed for one touchdown.

Burgettsto­wn 24, Serra Catholic 0: The Blue Devils (5-0, 4-0) continue to set the pace in the Three Rivers Conference after an impressive road win over Serra (3-3, 12). Burgettsto­wn did not give up a first down in the first half and outgained the Eagles, 321-90, in total offensive yardage. Jake Lounder led Burgettsto­wn with 161 yards passing and one touchdown pass. Lounder also scored on runs of 1 and 3 yards.

East Allegheny 50, Carmichael­s 8: The Wildcats (4-2) dominated Carmichael­s (0-5) in a non-conference game. Daniel Kasmier scored two touchodwns and passed for two

touchdowns.

New Brighton 42, Neshannock 21: Jacob Francona rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Lions (2-4, 2-1) over the Lancers 2-4, 2-2) in the Midwestern Conference..

Freedom 44, Valley 13: The Bulldogs (5-1) toppled host Valley (1-5) in a non-conference contest. Cody Ross scored on touchdown runs of one and 20 yards for Freedom.

Steel Valley 40, South Allegheny 3: Kam Williams rushed for 187 yards on 20 carries, scoring four touchdowns in leading the No. 3 Ironmen (4-1) past the host Gladiators (4-2) in a non-conference contest. Class 1A

West Greene 52, Avella 0: The TriCounty Conference-leading Pioneers (5-1, 50) blanked the host Eagles (1-4, 0-3). Ben Jackson scored five touchdowns for West Greene, giving him 22 for the season.

Chartiers-Houston 48, Mapletown 0: The Buccaneers (2-4, 2-2) scored in every quarter en route to an impressive win at Mapletown (0-6, 0-4) in the Tri-County South Conference. Tyler Blumen led Chartiers-Houston with three touchdowns, scoring once on a punt return and twice on receptions from
