Balanced offense, Mars tops Shaler, 21-12

Reinke rushed for 162 yards on 26 carries and scored the winning touchdown in the fourth quarter from 1 yard to carry the Fightin’ Planets (5-1, 2-1) to victory. Tyler Kowalkowsi connected with Andrew Recchia from 27 yards for the other Mars touchdown.
The road win sets up next week’s home clash with North Hills as a battle for second place in the Northern Conference. Shaler (1-2, 2-4) will travel to Armstrong next week.

Ellwood City 27, Western Beaver 21 (OT): Ellwood City captured its first win on the year by defeating host Western Beaver in overtime. Brady Welsh scored the winning touchdown from 4 yards on his only carry of the day. It was enough to push the Wolverines (1-3, 1-5) to victory in the Midwestern Conference clash. Cameron Irvine rallied Western Beaver (1-3, 2-4) for two fourth-quarter touchdowns. His team scored on an 82-yard pass to Dakari Bradford and a 1yard run. Raven Chandler tied the score on the 2-point conversion that sent the contest to overtime.
Avonworth 35, Summit Academy 8: Derek Johncour, the WPIAL’s No. 2 passer, completed 15 of 19 pass attempts for 288 yards and five scores, leading Avonworth to a victory against Summit Academy in the Allegheny Conference. Donte Gibson scored on a 3-yard touchdown run to help Summit Academy avoid a shutout.
Our Lady of Sacred Heart 56, Laurel 13: Tyler Bradley threw for 459 yards and seven touchdowns as the No. 2-ranked Chargers defeated Laurel. Ricco Tate caught seven passes for 174 yards and three touchdowns, and Andrew Schnarre added five catches for 68 yards, plus two touchdowns.
