Homeowners assured of remedy for landslide

-

Mr. Garner said that because roads have been closed, there haven’t been multiple points of entry into the neighborhood, which is a concern for emergency services.

The instability has taken an emotional toll on residents, too. Mr. Garner, who has lived in the development for nine years with his wife, Heidi, said Thursday’s crack in the hillside triggered a sense of a loss of security.

“We moved into a great community and now the security of our homes was gone, because we didn’t know what the impact was going to be,” Mr. Garner said. “We didn’t know what the next hill to slide was going to be. And when you look at your neighbors whose yards are starting to break off behind them, that’s a feeling of insecurity.”

Mr. Walz called recent events an “expansion of the same problem.” After the landslide in June, Ryan Homes put affected homeowners in temporary housing, and the township has been working with developers to compensate them.

When reached by phone Sunday, an official with the developer, Majestic Hills LLC, said he had no updates to share on the situation.

Mr. Walz said last week that the state Department of Environmental Protection was investigating the cause of the unstable land.

Heidi Garner said residents are “hopeful” at the moment because they see the township taking action.

“Everybody understands we’re all trying and doing what we can to help the process as individual neighbors,” she said.
