Crosby’s late 27-yard FG lifts Packers past 49ers

-

Mason Crosby kicked a 27-yard field goal as time expired to cap an 81-yard drive set up by Kevin King’s interception with 1:07 left, and the host Green Bay Packers outlasted the San Francisco 49ers for a 33-30 win Monday night at Lambeau Field.

The drive was extended after 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman was called for an illegal contact penalty on third-and-15 that wiped out a sack of quarterback Aaron Rodgers with 43 seconds left.

Rodgers rushed up the middle for a 21-yard gain on the next play.

The two-time NFL MVP completed two more passes for 19 yards to set up Crosby’s winner for Green Bay (3-2-1).

The veteran kicker was perfect a week after missing four field goals in a loss at Detroit.

Rodgers threw for 425 yards and two scores.

C.J. Beathard passed for 245 yards and two touchdowns for the 49ers (1-5).

Beathard connected with speedy receiver Marquise Goodwin for two long scores, and, for a while, it looked as if the 49ers might hold on for their first victory since quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was lost for the rest of the season in Week 3 with a torn ACL.

Bills

An injury to rookie starter Josh Allen’s throwing arm leaves Buffalo with two less-than-ideal options as potential Plan Bs. Their first involves returning the job to turnover-prone backup Nathan Peterman, a former Pitt quarterback who has thrown four interceptions in two appearances this season, and 10 overall in seven games. The other would have veteran Derek Anderson taking over a little more than a week after being lured out of semi-retirement.

Buccaneers

Mike Smith is out as defensive coordinator, replaced by linebackers coach Mark Duffner. Riding a three-game losing streak and not showing any signs of being able to fix a porous unit that keeps undermining the team’s chances of winning, the Buccaneers dismissed the former Atlanta Falcons coach after yielding 92 points in the first half of consecutive losses to the Steelers, Chicago Bears and Atlanta Falcons.

Vikings

Cornerback Mike Hughes has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, ending a promising rookie season after six games. Hughes was hurt in the fourth quarter of Minnesota’s win Sunday against Arizona. It’s the second year in a row the Vikings have lost their top pick to an ACL injury. Running back Dalvin Cook went down in the fourth game in 2017.
