“My Uncle Mark basically wrote down everything,” Dulak chuckled. “Every Pitt game he went to, he had a little book that he wrote a few sentences about what happened. Just little lines, like, ‘Pitt was supposed to win. They didn’t.’ Little stuff like that that makes you laugh. But he had written on the back something along the lines of putting all of our names, and how we stayed there all night at Pitt Stadium.”

Dulak could go on about the memories that come flooding back. Plenty with his uncle, of the old stadium and of Pitt games through the years.

This Notre Dame connection is new. He won’t forget it anytime soon.

“It’s a cool Notre Dame story, it’s a cool Pitt story, it’s a cool college football story,” Fremeau said. “I love it.” Fremeau is more than willing to send the memento back, but Dulak would rather stick to his original plan. He knows his grandpa and uncle would’ve loved to stroll the Notre Dame campus, take in the history of the place and see a Pitt game at the stadium.

“Well, you know what,” Dulak told Fremeau, “if you’ve got a special place for it, I took it out there for them to be there and experience the place for a little bit. So if you wouldn’t mind, put it somewhere special out there, and if anyone ever wants to throw it out, then just go ahead and mail it back.”
