NORTH Chili cook-off at library

Sharpsburg Community Library, 1212 Main St., will host a chili cook-off on Nov. 2 with seatings at 5 and 6 p.m. Participan­ts will receive one cup of chili from 10 competitor­s, along with bread, salad and dessert. Admission is $5 per person, with 25 persons per seating. SOUTH Rose society meets

“What’s Wrong With This Picture? Learning from Rose Growing Mistakes” will be the topic for the November meeting of the Pittsburgh Rose Society. The presenter will be rosarian Bill Dorn. EAST East Suburban artists

Community project muralist Bernie Wilke will be the speaker for the Nov. 1 meeting of the East Suburban Artists League, to be held at 6:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Route 286 and Logan Ferry Road, Murrysvill­e. He will discuss the process of developing mural concepts and will lead an interactiv­e presentati­on of his projects. The program is free and open to the public. WEST Prescripti­on collection

As part of the Drug Enforcemen­t Administra­tion’s Drug Take Back event, Pennsylvan­ia Resources Council and Pennsylvan­ia American Water will host two sites in the western suburbs to collect unwanted prescripti­ons and OTC medication­s for disposal. The collection­s will take from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Green Tree Borough Building, 10 W. Manilla Ave.; and at The Mall at Robinson in the parking lot near Dick’s Sporting Goods.
