Oregon’s Ionescu headlines AP All-America team

NCAA triple-double record holder Sabrina Ionescu headlines The Associated Press women’s basketball preseason All-America team.

Oregon’s junior has 10 triple doubles in her career and received 29 votes Thursday from the 31-member national media panel that selects the AP Top 25 each week.

She is joined on the team by Asia Durr of Louisville, Katie Lou Samuelson of Connecticu­t, Notre Dame’s Arike Ogunbowale and Baylor’s Kalani Brown.

Baseball

The Chicago Cubs exercised their $6.25 million option for Pedro Strop, and fellow reliever Brandon Kintzler picked up his $5 million player option.

• Tampa Bay finalized a minor league contract with 16-year-old Cuban pitcher Sandy Gaston that includes a $2.61 million signing bonus.

Golf

Peter Uihlein topped the leader board at 8-under 63 in the Shriners Hospitals For Children Open in Las Vegas, with Jordan Spieth three strokes back in his season debut. Uihlein birdied six of his final nine holes in the morning round at TPC Summerlin.

• Paul Dunne shot a bogeyfree, 7-under 64 to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Turkish Airlines Open in Antalya, Turkey, with Justin Rose one shot back.

Tennis

Roger Federer’s bid for a 100th career title remains on as he beat Fabio Fognini, 6-4, 6-3, to reach the Paris Masters quarterfin­als. If he wins that, against Kei Nishikori, he could face Novak Djokovic in the semifinals.

Elsewhere

An American basketball player who flew into Brisbane with his French bulldog placed inside his hand luggage has run afoul of Australia’s quarantine laws. Brisbane Bullets recruit Lamar Patterson was detained after landing in Brisbane, Australia with his dog, Kobe. The 27-yearold Patterson, who played college basketball at Pitt, has since been released.
