World War I slide show
The Rotary Club of Fox Chapel Area will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War I with a free slide presentation Thursday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Cooper-Siegel Library, featuring the true-life stories of three of its members. The slide presentation will focus on the social, political and economic upheaval resulting from ”The Great War.” For more information, call 412-4174477.
State Capitol tour
Mon Valley residents who may be interested in a holiday tour of the state Capitol are encouraged to register for a Dec. 6 bus trip hosted by state Rep. Austin Davis, DMc Keesport. The trip will include lunch and a tour of both the governor’s residence and the state Capitol building. Space is limited to 55 people and registration costs $35. Stargazing in White Oak
The Allegheny County Parks Department invites residents to come to White Oak Park and explore the mythology, science, and beauty of the night sky. With the help of a little technology, you can explore the stars even in cloudy weather! The next session will be held Sunday, Nov. 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the White Oak Park Administration Building, 3 Muse Lane, White Oak. The park number is 412-350-4636.
Book and jewelry sale
First United Presbyterian Church of Rennerdale will be holding a book, jewelry and purse sale this weekend. Shoppers can choose from a wide selection of books and CDs, as well as find a variety of jewelry and purses.
