A shuttered YMCA branch in Penn Hills may be occupied by a church.

The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh has an agreement tosell the building on Frankstown Road to Monroeville Assembly of God, a YMCA spokeswoman confirmed.

The church earlier this year tried to buy a former Bottom Dollar grocery building on Frankstown Road but could not obtain the necessary zoning.

The Rev. Lance Lecocq, pastor of the church, could not be reached for comment.

The Penn Hills branch is one of five YMCAs that closed during the summer as part of an ongoing restructuring of the nonprofit.

The facility has 31,000 squarefeet of space and sits on approximately seven acres.

It was listed for sale at a price of $1.8 million.

When it operated as a YMCA, it had about 950 members, eight full-time employees and 65 to 70 parttime workers.

The YMCA filed for bankruptcy in May saying it was running an annual deficit of about $1 million.

Besides the facility in Penn Hills, it closed a branch near Market Square, Downtown; and branches in Wilmerding, Moon, and Delmont, County.

The YMCA’s bankruptcy was dismissed in July but it continues to pay rent on the Downtown facility.

“The YMCA of Greater Westmoreland Pittsburgh is committed to supporting the social and recreational needs of the Penn Hills, Wilmerding and Coraopolis communities, and is working diligently to find solutions that are fiscally responsible and sustainable,” the YMCA said in a statement.
