Now you can get your milkshake fix in East Liberty, too
Milkshake lovers soon will have a new place to get a cool and creamy fix.
On Sunday, The Milk Shake Factory will open its third Pittsburgh location in East Liberty, at the corner of Penn and Highland avenues. To celebrate, it will host a grand opening from noon until 2 p.m. with free samples of the shop’s signature hot chocolate and decadent hot chocolate bark candy. Those who stop by also will have a chance to win prizes and snap photos with Penguins mascot Iceburgh.
The event also will feature a meet-and-greet with Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier and Penguins forward Jake Guentzel, namesake of the specialty Jake’s Shake that debuted in the shop’s new concession stand inside PPG Paints Arena in September and is available for half-price on the days he scores.
“We have felt very welcome by the community in East Liberty,” CEO Chris Edwards said in a release. “There is a great sense of history here for us as our family has been connected to this neighborhood for over 60 years.”
Pittsburgh-based Edward Marc Chocolatier opened the first Milk Shake Factory on Carson Street on the South Side in 1978. It’s still a family business led by Mr. Edwards and his siblings Mark and Dana.
The handspun shakes come in more than 50 classic and gourmet flavors and are crafted from milk locally sourced from Rivendale Farms in Bulger, Washington County. It also offers a variety of dairy-free and vegan shakes, along with ice cream sundaes, ice cream sodas and root beer and cold brew floats. Prices range from $5 to $7.
Besides its South Side and East Liberty locations, The Milk Shake Factory has a shop at the Tower at PNC Plaza on Fifth Avenue, Downtown. It has plans to open additional Pittsburgh locations in 2019.
Hours for all three locations are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sun.-Thurs. and 11 a.m. -11 p.m. Fri.-Sat.
