Airport shuttle extends eastward

-

The Port Authority is extending its airport shuttle eastward in Pittsburgh.

Service on the 28X-Airport Flyer currently goes no farther east than Fifth Avenue at Morewood Avenue on the border between Shadyside and Squirrel Hill.

Starting Nov. 18, however, the transit agency is adding numerous stops along the Fifth Avenue corridor all the way to the Point Breeze/ Larimer border.

The new stops to and from Pittsburgh International Airport will include spots at or near the intersections with Amberson, Wilkins, South Aiken, Negley, Maryland and Shady avenues; Beechwood Boulevard; and Thomas and McPherson boulevards.

“We’re just extending the availability of service to the airport to include more of our service area,” said authority spokesman Adam Brandolph. “It is partially due to customer demand from the Bakery Square area,” referring to the business development in the East End.

“We’re hoping it certainly does attract some extra riders, ”Mr. Brandolph said.

Fares at the new stops will be the same as elsewhere on the route: $2.50 with a Connect Card;$2.75 in cash.

The Port Authority also announced that its 21Coraopolis bus route will be split in two. The M Branch will serve the Moon business district, Robert Morris University, and the University Boulevard Park and Ride along University Boulevard. The S Branch will serve the current stops in Sewickley. Both branches will operate to Downtown via Route 51.

In addition to those updates, the Port Authority also modified schedules for more than24 bus routes.
