Antonio Brown cited for driving 100 mph
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown was pulled over Thursday morning and cited for driving over 100 mph on McKnight Road, according to Ross police.
Police had placed a marked cruiser along McKnight Road near the intersection of Babcock Boulevard and Interstate 279 and were on the lookout for a suspect in a bank robbery minutes earlier in McCandless.
A Porsche sped by the officer, who pulled it over at 9:54 a.m.
“A black car went past at a very high rate of speed. Our officer followed this car to investigate if it might be the suspect vehicle involved in the bank robbery,” said Detective Sgt. Brian Kohlhepp. “Our officer was able to stop the car. The operator was Antonio Brown.”
Police cited Mr. Brown for reckless driving. The ticket lists the fine and costs as $316.50.
“We are aware of the situation, but we are still gathering information. We won’t have any further comment at this
time,” Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten said.
The Steelers hosted the Carolina Panthers Thursday night at Heinz Field.
The robbery occurred about 9: 40 a.m. at WesBanco Bank in the 600 block of Duncan Avenue in McCandless. Tellers said a man entered, passed a note demanding money, and made off with an undetermined amount of cash.
A police dog tracked the robber to a parking lot in a nearby apartment building and then lost the scent, McCandless police Lt. Don O’Connor said.
The robber was described as white, in his late 20s to early 30s, 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He was wearing a knit hat and a two-tone orange Nike hooded sweatshirt with red sleeves. He had a distinctive mole on his left cheek.
Lt. O’Connor said police responded to the bank in just over a minute. He said he heard that Ross police were trying to pull over a vehicle and “stopped it pretty soon after they started chasing it.”
