Lamb brunch, seasonal sorbets and other ways to indulge

JAMISON FARM HAS A NEW MEMOIR/ COOKBOOK

John and Sukey Jamison are raising some of the most renowned lamb in the country at Jamison Farm in Latrobe. Now you can find out why it’s so superior and how they got here in their new book, “Coyotes in the Pasture and Wolves at the Door.”

The collection of stories and recipes about life on their farm includes the labor of love they started in the ’80s and appearances from the late Julia Child and the late-great chef Jean-Louis Palladin.

Pick up a copy on Saturday, at Muddy Waters in East Liberty (where their daughter, Eliza Jamison, is the head

chef), at 130 S. Highland Ave. There will be a Jameson Whiskey and Jamison lamb brunch there from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

THERE’S A CUTE NEW MARKET IN THE MEXICAN WAR STREETS

Mayfly Market & Deli is up and running at 1327 Arch St., a charming market from the people behind Gilligan’s Sorbet. In addition to sundry items, light produce, bottled milk and flowers from The Roots Cellar, there’s a short list of sandwiches and salads from the Lola Bistro folks, including housemade roast beef and a breakfast sandwich priced from $4.50 to $8. (Co-owner of Lola Bistro, Michael Barnhouse, did say that they’re a bit over a month away from the opening of Leo. A Public House.)

Even though it’s not summer, don’t skip the sorbet. They’re exceptionally creamy and come in such flavors as salted caramel and a superb pumpkin rendition. And yes, there is coffee and espresso. Mayfly is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHEFS IS HEADING BACK TO ASPINWALL

Spice Affair in Aspinwall is reopening Dec. 6 after a fire in June. And co-owner Barinder Singh confirms that Tamilselvan Thangadurai will be the head chef. Stay tuned for more closer to the date.
