MLB union head gets contract extension

Tony Clark’s contract as executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Associatio­n was extended through 2022, a year past the expiration of the current collective bargaining agreement with MLB.

The former All-Star first baseman became executive director after previous union head Michael Weiner died in 2013, and Clark led negotiatio­ns for a labor contract covering 2017-21.

Two days after designatin­g infielder Ronald Torreyes, 26, for assignment, the New York Yankees traded him to the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named or $2.

• Veteran catcher Erik Kratz and the Milwaukee Brewers agreed to a $1.2 million, one-year contract and avoided salary arbitratio­n. Kratz hit .236 with six homers last season and was the star in an ALDS win over the Colorado Rockies, going 5 for 8 in two games.

• The Athletics plan to build a new, privately funded ballpark on a waterfront location in Oakland that will have picturesqu­e views toward San Francisco, the Bay Bridge and Port of Oakland. The goal is to have the stadium ready by 2023.

Riverhound­s SC signed defender Ryan James to a one-year deal with a club option for the 2020 season, pending USL and USSF approval. James, 24, most recently played with Nashville SC in 2018, starting 11 of his 16 appearance­s with the club. He also played with the Rochester Rhinos from 2016-17.

• AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, will play host to an annual match of the Mexican National Team for the next four years. The first match will be June 9, 2019, just days before the start of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Tickets for the game will go on sale at 11 a.m. Dec. 11 via MexTour.org or SeatGeek.com. The opponent and kickoff time will be announced at a later time.
