City League

- — By Mike White

1. Allderdice (15-10) — After losing in the City League championship five consecutive years, the Dragons broke through and won the title last season, defeating Westinghouse in the title game. This could be a repeat season for Allderdice. The Dragons return three players who made all-City last year as sophomores. One of them was 5-7 guard Brooklyn Jones, who was the Post-Gazette’s City League Player of the Year. Jones averaged 12 points and 5 rebounds. The other two all-City performers were 5-7 junior guard Sophia North (14 ppg) and 5-foot junior guard Emma Waite (12.0 ppg).

2. Westinghouse (13-10) — The Bulldogs could have a force in the middle. Khamille Andrews is a 6-foot sophomore who averaged 14 points and 9 rebounds and made all-City last year. Guard play will be key for Westinghouse. Robyn Arrington-Epperson, a 5-1 freshman guard last year, averaged 6 points a game.

3. Obama Academy (16-8) — Obama’s stranglehold on the City League was broken last year. Obama won four consecutive championships before losing to Westinghouse in last season’s semifinals. Senior Talia Mitchell (8.5 ppg) is one of the top returnees.
