Jaguars call on DeFilippo to fix offense, quarterback
The Jacksonville hired former Minnesota offensive coordinator John DeFilippo to the same position with the Jaguars.
Coach Doug Marrone announced the addition along with five other assistant coaches. DeFilippo replaces Nathaniel Hackett, who was fired in late November and landed in Green Bay.
The Vikings parted way with DeFilippo, 40, in midDecember, reportedly for failing to commit to the ground game. DeFilippo spent less than a year in Minnesota.
“High energy on field, a tough football coach, going to hold people accountable,” Marrone said.
DeFilippo will be tasked with helping improve an offense that ranked 27th in yards and 31st in points in 2018. He also could play a role in developing the team’s next quarterback.
Jets
Gregg Williams was hired as defensive coordinator, the first major staff addition by Adam Gase since he became coach. Williams, 60, went 5-3 as Cleveland’s interim coach this season after Hue Jackson was fired.
Packers
Green Bay hired former Jacksonville assistant Nathaniel Hackett as their new offensive coordinator. Hackett spent most of the past four seasons with the Jaguars as quarterbacks coach (2015-16) and then as offensive coordinator before he was fired in November after Jacksonville lost its seventh consecutive game.
Lions
Detroit hired Darrell Bevell as their new offensive coordinator. Bevell spent seven seasons as Seattle’s offensive coordinator from 2011-17 and was part of a Super Bowl winner with the Seahawks.
