Former Alabama QB transfers to Oklahoma
Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts has decided to transfer to Oklahoma.
He made the announcement Wednesday in a story in the Players’ Tribune. He will be available immediately as a graduate transfer.
Hurts was a two-year starter who led Alabama to two national championship games and was Southeastern Conference offensive player of the year as a freshman. But Tua Tagovailoa replaced him at halftime against Georgia in the national title game after the 2017 season, then beat him out for the starting job heading into this past season.

Lou Spanos, who has experience on the college and pro levels, was hired as Connecticut’s new defensive coordinator. Last season, the Huskies gave up the most yards (7,409), yards per game (617.4), points (605) and points per game (50.41) of any major college football team in NCAA history.

Cincinnati play-by-play announcer Marty Brennaman, 76, will retire after the 2019 season, his 46th with the Reds.
• Kansas City Royals pitcher Eric Skoglund was suspended for the first 80 games after testing positive for two performanceenhancing substances.

Junior David Hamilton, a standout shortstop for Texas, will miss the 2019 season after tearing his Achilles tendon in a motorized scooter accident.

Tiger Woods will start his season again at Torrey Pines in San Diego playing next week in the Farmers Insurance Open, a tournament he has won seven times.
• Shane Lowry tied the course record with a 10-under 62 in the first round of the Abu Dhabi Championship at Abu Dhabi Golf Club to take a threestroke lead in the European Tour’s first event of 2019.
