Dukes win on the road

Duquesne defeats Richmond to improve to 3-1 in the Atlantic 10.

Sincere Carry scored 21 points with six assists, and Duquesne won at Richmond for the first time in 25 years, taking a 74-68 victory against the Spiders Wednesday night.

Frankie Hughes added 15 points on five 3-pointers and Marcus Weathers had 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks for the Dukes (12-5, 31 Atlantic 10), who won their third in a row with their first victory at Richmond since Dec. 20, 1993, a span of 11 games.

The Dukes had lost eight in a row overall to Richmond and picked up just their second win against Richmond in 25 conference meetings.

A jumper by Carry and a 3pointer by Hughes gave the Dukes a five-point lead with a minute left. Richmond cut it two with 28 seconds left but Tavian Dunn-Martin and Weathers sealed it with free throws at the end.

Nathan Cayo scored a career-tying 23 points and Jacob Gilyard had 22 for Richmond, which shot 53 percent, but had just two 3-pointers to 10 for the Dukes.

Iowa 89, Penn State 82: Luka Garza matched a season-high 22 points and also grabbed 12 rebounds as No. 23 Iowa (15-3, 4-3 Big Ten) edged host Penn State (7-11, 0-7). Josh Reaves and Rasir Bolton scored 16 points apiece for the Nittany Lions who led for most of the second half but lost their fifth game in a row. Mike Watkins chipped in 11 points and 11 rebounds for Penn State

Duquesne 81, Saint Joseph’s 73: The Dukes got a game-high 23 points from Kadri-Ann Lass and defeated Saint Joseph’s (5-12, 1-3 Atlantic 10) at Palumbo Center. Julijana Vojinovic scored the first five points of the game, including a three on the first possession, as part of her 12 first-quarter points, and the Dukes (9-8, 31) led, 22-19. Alyssa Monaghan then scored 11 points in the second quarter as the Hawks took a 37-36 lead at halftime. Duquesne quickly took the lead back on a Conor Richardson layup to start the third quarter and led by as many as 14 points in the fourth quarter.

West Virginia 73, Iowa State 64: Lucky Rudd and Tynice Martin combined for 42 points, 16 in the fourth quarter when they made 12 of 14 free throws, and host West Virginia (12-4, 3-2 Big 12) pulled away for a win against No. 18 Iowa State (13-4, 3-2) Rudd had 22 points, making 11 of 13 free throws, and Martin had 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Naomi Davenport added 15 points for the Mountainee­rs, who have won three in a row.
