Kings end Flyers’ winning streak at eight with victory in shootout
Tyler Toffoli’s goal capped the shootout and lifted the visiting Los Angeles Kings to a 3-2 victory against Philadelphia Thursday night that snapped the Flyers eight-game winning streak.
Austin Wagner and Adrian Kempe scored goals in regulation for the Kings.
Sean Couturier and Jakub Voracek scored for Philadelphia, which gave redhot rookie goaltender Carter Hart the night off and used backup Anthony Stolarz instead.
Islanders
Josh Bailey’s shootout goal lifted the visiting New York Islanders to a 2-1 victory against New Jersey and a sweep of their fourgame season series.
Jets
The Winnipeg Jets received a major boost on defense Thursday night when veteran Dustin Byfuglien returned to the lineup after a 15-game absence due to an unspecified lower-body injury. The timing could not have been much better because fellow defenseman Josh Morrisey won’t return to the lineup until at least Saturday because of an unspecified lower-body injury. While Byfuglien is known for big hits and aggressive style, Morrisey is best known for being steady as a rock on defense.
Defenseman Christian Djoos, who has been out of the lineup for two months and 24 games, could return to the Washington lineup Saturday after a brief conditioning stint in the American Hockey League. Djoos underwent left thigh surgery for compartment syndrome in December.
