The past week: DeShields scored 17 and 27 points in victories against Laurel Highlands and RInggold.
Check this out: DeShields, a 5-foot-11, 184-pound junior guard, is among the top 15 scorers in the WPIAL with an average of 22.3 points a game. He helped Uniontown win a WPIAL Class 4A section championship. He is averaging 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals a game and also has made 35 3-pointers. DeShields comes from good
genes. His grandfather, Billy DeShields, was a star running back at Laurel Highlands in the late 1960s and 1970. Would you say you’re a
shooter or a scorer? I would say scorer. I do a lot of slashing and dribble drives. I dish it out if I can find the open man, but I don’t really do a lot of outside shooting. Does your team feel like it’s flying under the radar in Class 4A? I believe we’re underestimated. At the beginning of the season, I saw some things on Twitter and people thought we were going to lose. Do you think you’re under the radar because you guys haven’t been real good in recent years? Most definitely.
OK, where should Uniontown be seeded in Class 4A for the playoffs? Top three.
So you’re not saying 1, 2 or 3? OK, I’ll say No. 3.
Not higher? I’m not saying higher because you’ve got some Pittsburgh area teams who have been good the past few years.

Why is Uniontown football bad
so many years? To be honest, I don’t really know. We don’t have a lot of athletes who come out for the team. Maybe it’s because the record is terrible and they don’t want to play. Do you think some basketball players would make good football players? I think so.
Why don’t you play football? I
used to, but I wasn’t as good as I am in basketball.

Will you be even better next year? It’ll be the exact team coming back. We’ll be older, mature, stronger. We have a bright future ahead of us. But what about this year? The

People might be surprised to know you ... ? My favorite sport is baseball.
Well why don’t you play? Because I’m just terrible and I have AAU basketball in the spring. I used to play but I was terrible.
