Gentlemen’s Night Out on the North Shore

- — Patricia Sheridan

#Soaring: More than $500,000 has been raised for the National Aviary during the past five years of the Gentlemen’s Night Out on the North Shore. The benefit was held at the Heinz Field Champions Club Friday night. Aviary board president Michael Mascaro once again hosted the party for nearly 200 guests. “We have done this for over 25 years,” he said. “My mom was an owl freak and my parents saw the aviary wasn’t doing well back in the early ’90s, so my dad started a fundraiser to help.”

The guys all broke out the tuxedos and cummerbunds for the occasion. A bag full of premium cigars, including Cubans, was handed to each person as they arrived. The smoking room was for the hard-core puffers fully embracing the evening’s theme. A raw bar along with passed hors d’oeuvres made for an enjoyable cocktail hour. Birds including Mike the owl and a magnificent bald eagle were there to remind guests what it was all about. Supporters were also treated to a tour of the Steelers locker room lead by former Steelers defensive end Arthur Moats and former Steeler Dorin Dickerson. “This event means so much to the National Aviary,” said executive director Cheryl Tracy. “The money raised tonight goes to fund all of our important programs and conservation, and our breeding programs that help to save animals from extinction.”
